If one speaks of a dental crown, then they mean the crowning of the already present natural tooth crown. The natural tooth crown is the upper, visible part of the tooth that protrudes from the gums. The purpose of the "artificial crown" is to preserve the natural tooth. In the case of broken or decayed teeth, the insertion of a dental crown - which is considered a fixed tooth replacement - is one of the most frequently performed dental treatments. They consist, for example, of metal, ceramic or plastic. Dental crowns are divided into full crowns and partial crowns. The full crown completely encloses the tooth. A partial crown, on the other hand, only covers part of the tooth, for example the occlusal surface. In addition to temporary (temporary) dental crowns, there are also crowns that are used as permanent dentures: Dental and orthodontic practices can make a temporary tooth crown directly. It serves the patient as a temporary solution until he receives the final denture. A permanent dental crown is carefully adapted to the patient's individual dentition and manufactured in special dental laboratories.
